Looking for an Obama sign?

Posted by Annie on October 14, 2008

If you’re one of the many people seeking Obama yard signs in Harford county and aren’t having much luck finding information online, here’s some help.

There are two Obama offices in Harford County: one in Aberdeen and one in Bel Air. The Aberdeen office is at 401 Market Street (either Suite 400 or 401, I have two different addresses in my emails) and the phone number is 410-297-8530. We’ve also received a comment on this blog that you can go to the Obama office in Bel Air on a weekday between 9 and 5 for a sign.  That office is at 137 Alice Ann St # B.  The office at 202 South Main St, at the corner of South Main and Churchville Road (Route 22) is the office for Frank Kratovil (thanks for the correction).  I’m unable to find a phone number for the Bel Air office but you can always stop by during the hours I mentioned.  One last option: you can email harfordcountyforbarackobama@gmail.com.

Don’t feel too badly about the lack of signs in Harford County; part of the issue is that since Maryland is a strong blue state, there aren’t many free Obama signs floating around.  If you lived in Ohio and wanted a sign, it’d be much easier to get one!  Many of the signs that are available were paid for by donations from the individual folks involved in the Harford for Obama campaign; thanks for all your work and dedication!  I’ve been thrilled with the number of people asking me about getting Obama signs, in my daily life, when they see my bumper sticker in a parking lot, as I worked at the Democratic Party table at the Darlington Apple Festival…it’s makes me hopeful for Harford County!

The conservative media

Posted by Annie on September 5, 2008

Ever feel like you’re the only person noticing the double talk coming from the mouths of Karl Rove, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Dick Morris and the like?  You’re not…John Stewart notices!  This clip shows statements by all of the above and how wildly they change when they’re talking about a Republican candidate or issue.  It’s incredible…sadly it’s something the mainstream “liberal” media would never call them out on.

You can read an article about this and watch the Daily Show clip here courtesy of the Huffington Post.  Or click here to view the official Comedy Central clip (with commercial).

OCS Oil Drilling: The WRONG Approach

Posted by piperj3cub on July 15, 2008

The Democrats in Congress can go a long way at this point in time towards renewing my personal faith in the party… by NOT responding to Bush’s obnoxious tactic to try and open vast regions of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) to oil drilling.  Drilling in the regions of the OCS currently off-limits will have NO short-term impact on fuel prices (it could be argued that the speculation of future supplies may reduce the price of oil by a small amount, but in reality over the past 50 years any increase in domestic production has had little to no impact on the price of gasoline; these data are available from multiple government and industry sources).  Expanding regions of the OCS open for future drilling WILL however allow many cronies of the president to make millions of dollars, if not billions, by domestic exploration alone, much less actual drilling (remember that much of both Bush’s and Cheney’s stock portfolios are involved with corporations that specialize in oil exploration and extraction).

Still… the entire reasoning behind the president’s decision to ‘open’ the OCS for expanded research and drilling is the reduction of gasoline prices.  I say again that this legislation will have NO IMPACT on fuel prices.  So, why will the Democrats in congress support it?  It is getting increasingly bothersome to me that the Democratic Party is so willing to legislate rather than educate; our party’s position over the past decades on this issue has been the correct one!  We need to be telling America why we are correct, not change our policy because we think this will work against Obama in the presidential campaign.  The position of environmental protection is not a bad one.  In addition, if we want to truly impact fuel prices, we would be supporting increased economy standards for automobiles, and an overall energy-efficient economy.  The slight increase in future supply of oil will have a minimal impact on fuel prices compared to the almost instantaneous impact that higher fuel efficiency standards would have on demand.  Wake up Democratic Party… DO THE CORRECT THING!
